Benzoin methyl ether also undergoes radiation-induced cleavage reactions with the release of benzene and formaldehyde, which can lead to its formation of polymers and oligomers. Cleavage products were observed microscopically, which may be due to the polymerization reactions that are catalyzed by benzoin methyl ether's hydroxyl groups.
