Beschreibung:Wr99210 hydrochloride is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits the biosynthesis of pentose phosphate, which is a major pathway for the synthesis of nucleotides and other cellular building blocks. Wr99210 hydrochloride binds to the enzyme thymidylate synthase, inhibiting DNA synthesis. This drug has been shown to be effective against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, but not against corynebacterium or other bacteria. Wr99210 hydrochloride also binds to wild-type strains of M. tuberculosis by competitive inhibition and may be used as a therapeutic agent in patients with drug-resistant tuberculosis. The interaction between Wr99210 hydrochloride and M. tuberculosis was studied using DNA microarrays to identify genes that are differentially regulated in response to this compound.
