• Beschreibung: The compound (-3(tert-butoxy)cyclobutanone) is a stereoselective hydroxylation of 4-cyanopyridine catalyzed by acetonitrile in the presence of sodium as a base. The reaction product is an unsymmetrical aldehyde with two hydroxyl groups on opposite sides of the ring. This synthesis can be carried out in one step, and the amines that are used as starting materials can be varied to synthesize different products. The reaction proceeds via nucleophilic attack on the nitro group of 5-nitroquinoline by chloride ion to yield an intermediate that undergoes hydrolysis with water and elimination of chloride ion to give 2-hydroxy-5-(tosyloxy)pyridine. This intermediate then reacts with ferrocene and vinyl ether in acetonitrile to give (-3(tert-butoxy)cyclobutanone).
