3-Chloropropyl isocyanate (3CIP) is a compound that belongs to the class of amides. It is used in the production of methyl anthranilate, an intermediate for the manufacture of dyes and pharmaceuticals. 3CIP has been shown to have serine protease inhibitory activity, which may be due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds with amino acids in the active site of these enzymes. It also inhibits cancer cells by inhibiting growth factor-induced cell proliferation and apoptosis. 3CIP can react with hydrochloric acid (HCl) to produce hydrogen cyanide (HCN), which is toxic if inhaled or ingested. This chemical can also polymerize into a film when mixed with polyethylene glycol or polypropylene glycol, making it useful as a coating material for medical devices such as catheters and implants.
