Beschreibung:5-Carbethoxyuracil (5CBU) is an inhibitor of uridine phosphorylase, which catalyzes the conversion of uridine to 5-formyluracil. 5CBU is a potential drug candidate for the treatment of toxoplasmosis. It has shown activity against a mutant strain of toxoplasma that is resistant to orotic acid and acetonitrile. Inhibition data shows that it blocks the production of orotic acid and 5-formyluracil, both of which are intermediates in the biosynthesis pathway.
