HDACs are enzymes that remove acetyl groups from lysine residues in histones, and they are involved in regulating gene expression. N-Cyclopropylguanidine has been shown to be effective against inflammatory diseases such as atherosclerosis, restenosis and also cancer. The drug inhibits the activity of protein kinases, which are enzymes that regulate cellular functions by adding a phosphate group to proteins. It also inhibits the growth of herpes virus.
