2-Cyano-N-hexylacetamide (2CHAA) is an acceptor molecule that can be used in photovoltaic devices. It has been shown to exhibit high efficiency and low cost. 2CHAA is a functional theory, which postulates that the photophysical properties of a molecule are determined by its chemical structure. This theory has been successfully applied to acetoacetate and ethyl acetoacetate, which are the two most common molecules in organic solar cells. The heterojunction is formed between the donor and acceptor molecules, and when irradiated with light, electrons are transferred from the donor to the acceptor molecule. The transfer of electrons leads to an increase in electrical current flow. 2CHAA has also been shown to have a strong interaction with phenothiazine, which may lead to increased efficiency of photovoltaic devices containing these two molecules.
