Calix[8]arene is a macrocyclic molecule that is used as a chemical structure for cationic polymerization. It has been shown to have an intramolecular hydrogen-bonding cavity, which may be the reason for its stability. Calix[8]arene has been shown to react with human serum albumin and form a polymeric matrix that stabilizes the molecule. The linear calibration curve obtained from nmr spectroscopic data showed that calix[8]arene exhibits optical sensor behavior in response to various concentrations of hydrogen peroxide. Calix[8]arene also exhibits allergic reactions in some individuals, which can be attributed to its reaction mechanism.
