1-Chloro-2-(ethylsulfonyl)ethane is a chemical compound that reacts with light to produce reactive oxygen species. These compounds are used as analytical reagents and in the manufacture of other chemicals. The most common use for 1-chloro-2-(ethylsulfonyl)ethane is as an intermediate in the production of herbicides, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals. 1-Chloro-2-(ethylsulfonyl)ethane is also used as a photocatalyst for the oxidation of unsaturated alkyls, sulfoxides, and nitro groups.
