4-Chloro-1,3-dimethyl-1H-pyrazole-5-carboxylic acid is a benzene derivative that has been shown to be an effective insecticide. It is used in pest control and in the control of insects on crops. This compound belongs to the class of chlorinated aliphatic compounds and contains a pyrazole ring with a carboxylic acid group. 4c HClO can be synthesized by reacting 1,3-dimethylpyrazole with chloroform in the presence of pyridine and sodium hydroxide. The compound is unstable in water but can be prepared as a stable solid salt with potassium chloride.
