Beschreibung:
6-Chlorophenanthridine is a synthetic nitro compound that has antimycobacterial activity. It is an analogue of phenanthridone, which is an anti-tuberculosis drug. 6-Chlorophenanthridine may be useful in the treatment of cancer. 6-Chlorophenanthridine binds to DNA, forming a covalent bond with the nucleophilic nitrogen atom, and inhibits protein synthesis by inhibiting the enzyme ribonucleotide reductase. This leads to DNA lesions and cell death.
