It is structurally similar to taxifolin, a natural product found in plants and fungus. 3-Chloropyrazine-2-carboxamide inhibits the growth of Gram positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus, by binding to the amines on the bacterial cell wall. The compound binds to the hepg2 cells and inhibits protein synthesis by inhibiting ribosomal translocation. 3-Chloropyrazine-2-carboxamide also has a potent fungicidal effect against Candida albicans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
