4-Chlorobenzofuro[3,2-d]pyrimidine is a pyridazine derivative that has been shown to be active against malaria. This drug inhibits the replication of the parasite by interfering with nucleic acid synthesis and protein synthesis. 4-Chlorobenzofuro[3,2-d]pyrimidine has also been shown to have antiviral effects in vitro. It binds to nucleosides and blocks the activity of DNA polymerase. The compound also prevents the replication of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) by inhibiting reverse transcriptase. 4-Chlorobenzofuro[3,2-d]pyrimidine is currently being developed as an antimalarial drug candidate to treat malaria.
