L-Carnitinenitrile chloride is an optical, crystalline form of L-carnitine. L-Carnitine is a naturally occurring amino acid that has been shown to have therapeutic effects on the heart by aiding in the release of cellular energy. The compound can be obtained through a number of crystallizations and enantiomer separations. It is also available in high yield, which may be due to its chloride and oxalate solubility. L-Carnitinenitrile chloride can be used as a reagent for fractionating perchlorates, hydrochloric acid, or perchlorate.
