4-Carboxaldehydebenzocyclobutene is a polymeric molecule that is crosslinked with 1,4-diaminobenzene. It has been shown to form spherical micelles in the presence of dimethyl sulfide and to be able to be thermally degraded into two molecules of dimethyl sulfide. 4-Carboxaldehydebenzocyclobutene can also undergo dimerization with other molecules containing a benzene ring. This process occurs through an electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction and is reversible.
