• Beschreibung: 2-Chlorocinnamaldehyde is a β-unsaturated aldehyde that can be synthesized from cinnamaldehyde by chlorination. It has been shown to have inhibitory activity against the growth of bacteria, such as typhimurium. This compound can be synthesized in high yields using an organocatalytic transfer reaction with dimethylformamide as the solvent and using sodium hydroxide as the base. The 2-chlorocinnamaldehyde is then converted to its corresponding acid chloride using thionyl chloride or oxalyl chloride. The acid chloride is then reacted with an alkyl halide, such as methyl bromide, in the presence of a catalytic amount of a raney nickel catalyst under conditions of irradiation and at low temperature to yield the desired product. 2-Chlorocinnamaldehyde can also be prepared by asymmetric synthesis from chiral starting materials.
