Beschreibung

The present invention provides a novel process for the preparation of trans-1,2-cyclohexanedioldiacetate from crotonaldehyde and 1,2-ethanediol. The reaction proceeds in good yields and is highly enantioselective. This process is advantageous over the prior art because it allows for the preparation of this compound with high yield, good optical purity and high enantioselectivity. The present invention also provides a method for preparing racemic trans-1,2-cyclohexanedioldiacetate which can be separated into its two enantiomers by preparative chiral chromatography or other separation methods.
Optically active trans-1,2-cyclohexanedioldiacetate can be used to prepare optically active products such as (R)-dextroamphetamine hydrochloride. It has been reported that (R)-dextroamphetamine hydrochloride is useful in treating attention deficit disorder with hyperactivity
