2-Cyano-5-hydroxypyridine (2C5HP) is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have a glucose lowering effect in diabetic rats. It has also been found to be an agonist of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, suggesting that it may be useful for treating Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. 2C5HP is a member of the class of compounds known as piperidines.
