• Beschreibung: Calcium methoxide is a chemical compound that is used as an organic solvent. It can be prepared by the reaction of calcium oxide and methanol. Calcium methoxide is a colourless liquid with a boiling point of 180°C at atmospheric pressure. The reactivity of this compound can be increased by adding acid, such as malonic acid, or metal ions, such as ferrous chloride. In addition, the ring-opening reaction system can be activated with an acidic catalyst, such as stannous octoate. Calcium methoxide reacts with vinyl alcohol to produce calcium hydroxide and formaldehyde gas in a two-step process. The reaction yield for this process is typically about 50%.
