Beschreibung

Cefmenoxime is a penicillin-type antibiotic that is active against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It binds to the penicillin-binding proteins in bacterial cell walls by competitive inhibition, which prevents the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. Cefmenoxime has been shown to be effective against streptococci, pneumococci, enterococci, staphylococci, corynebacteria, erythromycin-resistant strains of Haemophilus influenzae, and Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Cefmenoxime hydrochloride is a crystalline substance that is soluble in water and alcohol but not in ether or chloroform. It has an experimental solubility of 4.2 mg/mL at 25°C in water vapor.
