- 5-(2-Chloroacetyl)-1,3-Dihydroindol-2-One
5-Chloroacetyloxindole is a heterocyclic organic compound. It is the condensation product of 5-chloroacetic acid and indole. 5-Chloroacetyloxindole has been shown to be an efficient, high yielding synthesis of indoles from chloroacetic acid and ammonia. The indoles are obtained in good yields by condensation reactions with thiourea, the reaction being catalyzed by ethanol. The elemental analyses of 5-chloroacetyloxindole show that it contains C, H, Cl, N and O in equal amounts. Its 1H NMR spectrum shows peaks at 7.5 ppm for the aromatic protons, 2.6 ppm for the methylene protons and 3 ppm for the methyl group on the nitrogen atom. The 13C NMR spectrum displays peaks at 143 ppm for the carbonyl carbon, 114 ppm for the aromatic carbon and 76 ppm for the methyl group on the
