6-Chloro-4-pyrimidinecarboxylic acid is a pyrimidine derivative that has the benzoic acid substituent at position 4. Hydrothermal conditions are required for the formation of 6-chloro-4-pyrimidinecarboxylic acid from its corresponding carboxylate and ammonium chloride. The compound has been shown to form ion pairs in solution, which can be described by the following equation:
