Beschreibung

Ceftolozane sulfate is a new antibiotic combination that contains ceftolozane and amoxicillin-clavulanic acid. It is a beta-lactam antibiotic that targets penicillin-binding proteins of bacteria (PBPs). Ceftolozane sulfate binds to the PBP in the bacterial cell wall by competitive inhibition, preventing the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. This agent also has a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Ceftolozane sulfate has been shown to be effective against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains, which are among the most common causes of hospital acquired infections. Ceftolozane sulfate is poorly absorbed into human serum but readily crosses the blood brain barrier
