Clothianidin is a neonicotinoid insecticide that is typically used to control sucking and chewing insects such as aphids, thrips, and leafhoppers. Clothianidin is a systemic pesticide that can be taken up by plants from the soil or through foliar applications. The toxicity of clothianidin was determined using LC50 values in a chemiluminescent assay with reaction solution. Terminal residues were determined using GC-MS analysis. Matrix effects were minimized by analyzing samples with an analytical method that has been optimized for clothianidin detection. Clothianidin has been shown to have sublethal effects on locomotor activity in honeybees, which may be due to its inhibition of enzyme activities linked to physiological function. High resistance has been observed in some insect populations, including the monoclonal antibody response in the larvae of diamondback moths (Plutella xylostella) following exposure to sublethal doses of clothianidin
