Beschreibung

p-Cumenesulphonic acid is an inorganic acid that can be used as a cationic surfactant. It is also a viscosity control agent, which can be added to glycol ethers to lower their viscosity. p-Cumenesulphonic acid has been successfully used as a detergent composition for the removal of oils, fats, and greases from surfaces. It is also effective against bacteria. The antimicrobial activity of p-cumenesulphonic acid is related to its ability to protonate fatty acids and methyl glycine, leading to the formation of reactive oxygen species that damage bacterial cells. The chemical stability of p-cumenesulphonic acid allows it to act as an antimicrobial agent at neutral pH values. At higher pH values, it acts as a hydrogen fluoride scavenger and has been shown to have a phase transition temperature below room temperature.
