1-Chloro-3-iodopropane is a synthetic compound that is used as a solvent. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of urinary tract infections when combined with sodium hydroxide solution and 3-bromopropylamine hydrobromide. The major route of elimination of 1-chloro-3-iodopropane is renal excretion, which makes it an ideal candidate for this type of application. 1-Chloro-3-iodopropane is metabolized to chloride and bromide ions, which are excreted in the urine. This compound can also be found in human urine samples, although at much lower concentrations than in animal studies.
