Beschreibung

Ceramides are a type of sphingolipid that is found in the outermost layer of skin, and in other tissues such as the brain. Ceramides play a role in maintaining cell structure, signaling, and regulating gene expression. They also serve as a predictive biomarker for insulin resistance and have been shown to be associated with body mass index. Ceramides can be used to treat cancer by inhibiting tumor growth, or to reduce high cholesterol levels by reducing the synthesis of fatty acids. Multiple-reaction monitoring (MRM) is an analytical method that can be used to measure the concentration of ceramides in human serum or fatty acid extracts from animal tissue or cells. The MRM method uses gas chromatography with flame ionization detection (GC-FID) for separation and quantification.
