• Beschreibung: Carbidopa methyl ester is a prodrug that is converted to L-DOPA in the brain. It is used for the treatment of Parkinson's disease and other conditions caused by low levels of dopamine. Carbidopa methyl ester does not cross the blood-brain barrier, so it must be taken by mouth or injected into the fluid around the spine. The drug is usually given with carbidopa, a decarboxylase inhibitor that prevents conversion of L-DOPA to dopamine outside the brain.
