Carboxyphosphamide is a cytotoxic drug that belongs to the class of nitrogen mustards. It is used as an antineoplastic agent in the treatment of cancer. Carboxyphosphamide has been shown to inhibit DNA synthesis and protein synthesis, which are vital for cell division. The stability of this drug is due to its chemical structure, which prevents it from undergoing hydrolysis by esterases or glucuronidases. Carboxyphosphamide has been shown to be effective against autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis. This drug also inhibits the production of enzymes such as cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and lipoxygenase (LOX).
