Beschreibung

Cefditoren pivoxil is a cephalosporin antibiotic that is the active prodrug form of cefditoren. The prodrug is hydrolyzed by esterases or glucuronidases in the gastrointestinal tract to release the active form, which inhibits bacterial growth by binding to ribosomal RNA, preventing protein synthesis. Cefditoren pivoxil has been shown to be effective against Streptococcus pyogenes and other gram-positive bacteria, but not against most gram-negative bacteria such as Haemophilus influenzae or Escherichia coli. It has also been shown to have a high affinity for penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) in streptococcal species.
