Beschreibung

Cefpodoxime is a cephalosporin antibiotic that is used to treat various infections, such as streptococcal pharyngitis and other bacterial infections. It is an oral prodrug that needs to be converted in the body to its active form, cefpodoxime. Cefpodoxime binds to the bacterial ribosome and prevents the formation of peptidoglycan cross-links in the cell wall, which inhibits bacterial growth. It has been shown to have a broad spectrum of activity against gram-positive species, including Streptococcus species. Cefpodoxime can interact with other drugs and should not be taken with antacids or laxatives containing magnesium.
Cefpodoxime proxetil has been found to be biocompatible and can be used for prolonging drug release in devices such as implants or stents.
