Beschreibung

Ceftibuten dihydrate is a hydrated form of ceftibuten. It is an antimicrobial agent that belongs to the group of antimicrobial agents. Ceftibuten dihydrate has been used in the treatment of endometriosis and infectious diseases, such as urinary tract infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial growth, by binding to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) on the bacterial cell wall. This prevents the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. Ceftibuten dihydrate also inhibits prokaryotic ribosomes, preventing rRNA and tRNA from being synthesized. Ceftibuten dihydrate also binds to fatty acids in microbial membranes and causes lysis of these membranes, leading to death of the microbe.
