Cephalomannine is synthesized by the fungus Cephalomanes javanica, which can be grown on nutrient solutions. The method of preparation for cephalomannine includes extracting the crude extract from the culture medium using chloroform and methanol, followed by purification with preparative hplc. The logarithmic growth phase is an optimal time for extraction because it contains high levels of cephalomannine. The light emission technique is also used for determining the amount of cephalomannine in a sample. This technique uses a UV lamp to observe fluorescence from cephalomannine, which can be quantified using LC-MS/MS analysis.
