Beschreibung

Coumestrol is a naturally occurring compound found in plants. Coumestrol is a phytoestrogen with estrogenic activity and binds to the estrogen receptor. It has been shown to regulate energy metabolism, lipid metabolism, and gene expression in cell cultures. Coumestrol also activates the retinoic acid receptor, which may be responsible for its genotoxic effects. In addition, coumestrol can induce insect resistance and stimulate natural compounds that have antioxidant properties. Coumestrol has been used as an analytical method for measuring the concentration of estrogens in plasma or other bodily fluids. The preparation of coumestrol is done using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
