Cytochalasin A is a natural, biodegradable polymer that is used to inhibit protein synthesis in cells. It binds to basic proteins, such as actin and myosin, and disrupts the assembly of cytoskeletal filaments. Cytochalasin A has been shown to be effective in inhibiting protein synthesis in liver cells and hematopoietic cells. This drug also inhibits sugar transport, which may lead to the accumulation of glucose in the blood. Cytochalasin A is water-soluble and can be taken orally or injected intravenously for use in humans.
