Beschreibung

(+)-Catechin hydrate is a natural compound that is found in the leaves and bark of plants. It has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity against human cancer cells, but not normal cells. The mechanism by which (+)-catechin hydrate exerts its cytotoxic effects is not well understood, but it may be due to its ability to inhibit oxidative injury to DNA and proteins. Other mechanisms include inhibition of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) activity, nuclear DNA binding, and apoptosis pathway. (+)-Catechin hydrate has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes in a dose-dependent manner with a rate constant of 1.2 x 10^-5 M^-1s^-1. This compound also has strong antioxidant properties and can be used as an analytical standard for caffeic acid derivatives.
