2-Cyano-6-aminobenzothiazole is an organic compound. It is a synthetic molecule used to study the uptake of hydroxyl group in infectious diseases. This compound has been shown to be synthesized by reaction of cyanide with 2,6-diaminobenzoic acid and subsequent hydrolysis. In vitro assays have demonstrated that this molecule can inhibit protease activity in some cases; however, it is not yet known how this inhibition occurs. The fluorescence probe for 2-cyano-6-aminobenzothiazole is silver ions, which are activated by light to form reactive species that crosslink proteins and DNA in the cell. These reactive species cause apoptotic cell lysis and cancer cell death. Lipolytic enzymes such as lipase and phospholipase A2 are also inhibited by 2-cyano-6-aminobenzothiazole.
