Beschreibung

Campesterol is a sterol that can be found in plants, vegetables and animal fats. It is known to have anti-inflammatory properties and to inhibit the growth of certain bacteria. Campesterol has been shown to inhibit the production of cholesterol by competing with 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG CoA) reductase. It also inhibits the absorption of triglycerides in the small intestine by binding to bile acids, which are necessary for fat digestion. Campesterol has been used as a model system for studying cholesterol metabolism and its role in human health.
