Chelidamic acid is an organic compound that contains a carboxylate group. It has been shown to have the ability to complex with protons and form an acid complex. The optimum concentration of this compound is between 0.1-2 mM, in order for it to be active. Chelidamic acid is structurally similar to pyridine, with the only difference being that chelidamic acid does not contain a nitrogen atom. The structural analysis of this chemical shows that it has one hydroxyl group and one hydrogen bonding interaction. Chelidamic acid has been found to inhibit prostate cancer cells and leukemia cells in vitro, as well as light emission in vitro. X-ray crystal structures of chelidamic acid show that it coordinates with two zinc ions and two magnesium ions at the mitochondrial membrane potential in a coordination geometry where each zinc ion interacts with one oxygen atom from each chelidamic acid molecule and each magnesium ion interacts with one nitrogen atom from each chelid
