The type strain of 1,3-cyclohexanediol was isolated from wheat leaves and studied by means of cyclohexane ring electrochemical studies. This compound has been used as a coating for metal surfaces, and its ability to bind flavonol glycosides can be attributed to its unsaturated ketone functionality. Cyclohexanediol has also been shown to inhibit mitochondrial membrane potential and hydroxyl group activation in radiation exposure.
