In addition, this compound inhibits the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis by inhibiting the metabolic pathways necessary for cell proliferation. 4-Chloro-3-methylbenzoic acid also has been shown to inhibit the growth of other bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
