It also has low energy levels, which makes it suitable for use in antiviral treatments such as Covid-19 for pandemic influenza A (H1N1). Hydrochloric acid activates 2,3-cyclopentenopyridine to form an intermediate product. Activation energies of 2,3-cyclopentenopyridine are found to be around 12 kcal/mol.
