Beschreibung

Cefminox sodium is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. It is the most active of the cephalosporins against Gram-positive bacteria, including strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Enterococcus faecalis. Cefminox sodium also has activity against Gram-negative bacteria, such as Haemophilus influenzae and Escherichia coli. Cefminox has shown activity against mycoplasma and chlamydia. Cefminox sodium is an ester prodrug that must be activated by hydrolysis before it becomes active. Hydrolysis occurs in vivo by esterases or β-lactamases in the liver or kidney. The benzoate moiety of cefminox can inhibit glucose absorption in vivo and may enhance glucose absorption in diabetics following an injection with insulin
