Cerium(III) acetate sesquihydrate is a reagent that is used in the synthesis of glycosidic bonds. It acts as a catalyst and participates in the reaction mechanism. The molecular structure of cerium(III) acetate sesquihydrate can be described by the formula Ce(OOCCHCOO). This compound has been shown to have a high catalytic activity for oxidation reactions, such as polymerization, and has been used as a solid catalyst for ZrO2. Cerium(III) acetate sesquihydrate can also be used to study human serum albumin in an electrochemical impedance spectroscopy experiment.
