Beschreibung

Carboxypeptidase B is a proteolytic enzyme, which cleaves peptide bonds at the carboxyl side of basic amino acids. It is used as an inhibitor of epidermal growth factor (EGF) in cell culture. Carboxypeptidase B has been shown to be active against human serum and other proteolytic enzymes, such as papain and pepsin. Carboxypeptidase B hydrolyzes proteins by removing terminal lysine residues and esterifies hydroxyl groups on the amino acid side chain to form a stable acyl-enzyme intermediate. This enzyme is used as a prodrug for oral administration of carboxypeptidase A in pancreatic cancer treatment. The inhibition of EGF by carboxypeptidase B has been shown to inhibit tumor growth in vivo by inducing apoptosis through the activation of caspases.
