Beschreibung

2-Chloro-3-nitrobenzoic acid methyl ester is a chemical compound that has been shown to inhibit the activity of serotonin. The compound binds to the 5-HT3 receptor on the enteric neurons and inhibits the release of serotonin in the bowel, which is one of the two major sites of action for this drug. This inhibition leads to reduced motility and decreased secretion in the bowel, which helps relieve symptoms in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It has also been shown that 2-chloro-3-nitrobenzoic acid methyl ester is able to inhibit the production of serotonin from tryptophan by inhibiting an enzyme called aromatic amino acid decarboxylase.
