Curcumol is a monomeric compound that belongs to the class of curcuminoids. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and data analysis in cells. Curcumol inhibits tumor growth in mice and is more effective than other compounds, such as indomethacin, at reducing the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β and TNF-α. Curcumol also has a strong antifibrotic activity in vitro, which may be due to its ability to inhibit proliferation of endothelial cells through the inhibition of extracellular matrix production. Curcumol also inhibits the growth of some cancer cell lines, including colon cancer cells.
