Beschreibung

Columbin is a cox-2 inhibitor that has been shown to inhibit the production of inflammatory mediators, such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes, in vitro. Columbin also has a potent anti-inflammatory effect in vivo. Columbin is an intramolecular hydrogen donor that can react with malonic acid to form a covalent bond. This reaction may be responsible for the drug's minimal toxicity and its ability to inhibit tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) production. Columbin's potential as a drug target is due to its receptor activity and biological studies that have shown it to be effective against liver cells.
