It inhibits the activity of c-jun phosphorylation and DNA synthesis in HL60 cells. 7,8,8a,9a-Tetrahydrobenzo[1,12]tetrapheno[10,11-b]oxirene-7,8-diol is also an apoptosis inducer for HL60 cells. This agent has been shown to induce apoptosis by binding to DNA template and inhibiting mitochondrial functions. The mechanism of action for this compound is not fully understood but may involve mitochondrial membrane potential and multivariate logistic regression analysis.
