This compound is one of the active compounds found in a strain of fungus Penicillium sp., which was isolated from soil samples collected in the city of Kolkata, India. Chroman-6-carbaldehyde is fluorescent and can be detected using fluorescence spectroscopy and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
